Steve Goodman aka Kode9

Steve Goodman aka Kode9

Steve Goodman

Sonic Warfare : sound, affect and the ecology of fear" は米MIT Pressより11月刊行です。

Thanksgiving to Steve/nin9 and all participants

Open Lecture "Sonic Warfare : sound, affect and the ecology of fear" by Steve Goodman aka Kode9 finished with some pleasant feedbacks from all of you joined to the event that night. Steve/Kode9, and me myself of course, was very glad to have this valuable chance to talk about some of his key concepts mentioned in his forthcoming book "Sonic Warfare" maybe for the first time in Japan.

I'd like to thank all of you participated in spite of the bad weather and my late announcement, and for your listening to his lecture patiently even with my consecutive mal-interpretation - maybe it was "unsound"?

I will summarize and introduce some of his concepts later in this blog like :

- Sonic Warfare
--+ Sonic Weapon
----+ kind of "sonic camouflage" experiments by 23rd division of US Army during WWII
----+ "Wandering souls/ghosts" during the Viet Nam War
----+ "Apocalipse Now" by Francis F. Coppola
----+ LRAD (Long Range Acoustic Device) used in Iraqi War
--+ (Micro) Politics of Frequency
----+ Mosquito (as )
----+ Ultra-low frequency deployment for military/police uses

- Audio virology
--+ Affective contagion/ Affective tonality
--+ Audio virus
----+ 2 symptoms after contagion to the audio virus
------+ Cognitive Itches
------+ Stuck Tune Syndrome
----+ Sonic branding / Sonic logo by private companies like Intel
----+ Ecology of Ear worm / contagion of hook of pop song or dance crazy in dance floor

- Unsound
--+ double meaning of Unsound
----+ in daily usage in english language / politically "bad" sound
----+ Unsound as no-sound
------+ peripheries of auditory perception / inaudible sound
------+ the unactualized nexus of rhythms and frequencies within audible bandwidths
--------+ reappropriation of unsound by artists and musicians to create new aesthetic experience

At last but not least, Thank you again Steve for giving this challenging experience during your hectic tour schedule. respect. h4nz
